- Statement Following Meeting of Presidential Coalition for Athletics
Reform/BCS
We would like to
thank everyone for your interest in today's meeting. On July 21, the
Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee invited the
presidents representing the five conferences not represented by the
BCS, as well as the President of Notre Dame, to meet here in Chicago
so we could discuss each sides' interests, president-to-president. Our
hope is that we might achieve a better understanding of our mutual concerns
and have a better opportunity to improve post-season play by such a
meeting. The tone of the meeting was collegial, candid and positive.
With the help of NCAA President Myles Brand, who facilitated today's
discussion, we made significant progress. More

program was in the best long-term interests of the university given
the changing landscape of Division I intercollegiate athletics and the
academic mission, goals and resources of Tulane University. More
