Comments November 30, 2003 I know that you are in the process of helping to decide the future of the college football bowl system. I am writing to let you know about a new solution to the BCS issue. Please visit http://www.bcssolution.com to learn how many college football fans want to fix the BCS. P.S. This is by far the best idea regarding this whole mess that I have heard. I just heard about it and am writing this at 2:18 AM because I am fired up about it. I watch every minute of the NFL that I can but it's been a while since I was interested in college football (Archie Griffin may have played in the last game that I watched). This plan would yet again rivet me to the television on New Years Day and for quite a few Saturdays in the Fall. ***** I, personally, think the BCS works, but I feel the importance of the major bowls has been severely damaged. I feel that this plan that has been submitted not only keeps a good thing going, but makes it better. Again I can look at the champion of my beloved west-coast Pac 10 champion vs. the champion of the conference that plays my favorite football, the Big 10. Please take a look at this system. It would make college football impossibly better! November 26, 2003 Please add my name in support of Dr Cowen's effort to get the flawed "BCS" system disbanded, and a new play-off system started. ***** Dear Coalition, I have been following very closely Dr. Cowen and the coalitions efforts since this all began last year. I am very pleased with the progress that has been made on behalf of my university, East Carolina University, and the other non-BCS schools. I am a huge fan of college football but this issue has really soured my perception of the NCAA and the BCS affiliated schools. It really makes my blood boil when I see comments by BCS officials denying that the system is unfair and casting the non-BCS schools as some upstart looking for a handout. Some of the non-BCS schools have tradition, fan support, and better quality programs than others in the BCS. How can you tell me that the TV markets want to see Duke football versus Rutgers, or any other combination of BCS schools that historically have had substandard programs but are benefiting from the so-called fair BCS system. BYU, ECU, TCU, Tulane, Colorado St., Southern Miss, etc. would be able to compete immediately with these BCS schools in a playoff system if only given the chance! It has been proven over and over when the non-BCS schools have defeated many of the BCS schools on the field in recent history. (most of the games being played on the BCS schools home field I might add) This system is bogus and unfair. It must be stopped and the entire Division 1 should be included in the new system. The fans want to see Cinderella in the big dance and let's settle it on the field. Not in some back room at a bowl game or with a big TV network, ON THE FIELD! We must have revenue sharing as well if all the schools are to survive. All we need is FAIRNESS!!!! Good Luck and continue to great work. We are pulling for you. November 25, 2003 Since Division I football does not have a play off system in place, I refuse to recognize anyone as a true national champion of Division 1 football. This is all bogus. You must find an alternative to your current system. November 20, 2003 1-A football should have a 16 team playoff. The NCAA does it now for 1-AA. It should not be too hard for all you sharp minded folks to come up with a plan. Just listen to any sports talk radio station for ideas. November 10, 2003 Hello, I wanted to link the latest rankings in D-1 FB. 7 schools in the top 30 are "Non-BCS" schools. Though these polls are inherently biased against Non BCS schools, I thought it interesting to see so many non BCS schools represented. This is just one more reason that college football (D1) should go to a playoff! Settle it on the field like every other sport does. Also, I hope the coalition will continue to fight this even if TCU gets a bid to a BCS game this year. In my opinion, the powers that be will probably "throw the Non-BCS schools a bone" just to get the pressure off. If TCU is undefeated, they should have a shot at the National Championship. Period. Keep up the good work! ***** Good morning. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame and have been an Irish football fan my whole life. But, 3 years ago I saw the light. I moved to Toledo, OH and received my MBA from the University of Toledo while there. I got hooked on MAC football and for the last three years have supported Toledo because I was convinced they could beat the big boys with their talent. The MAC has proven that this year. Below should be the biggest
reason why the BCS Monopoly needs to be busted up based purely on competition
since the MAC is tied for 4th and has outperformed two of the BCS conferences
that get
Hopefully this helps. Personally,
I think the BCS is a monopoly and there is no way to justify it other
than a monetary decision by the big time football conferences to get the
biggest payout. The same reason ND will never join a conference so we
don't have to share the NBC television contract money with anybody else.
Keep fighting the good fight for the rest of us! Thanks for your efforts! November 6, 2003 I am writing you today to let you know your efforts are greatly appreciated. In a year that has seen trying times for pirate fans, your diligence to level the Division I playing field for college football has given us a vision for brighter days. The exposure with the national media has been phenomenol. We continue to hear positive stories in all the major newspaper publications and radio outlets in the mid-atlantic area. Our focus locally has been contacting key legislative personnel to make them more aware of our concerns. Thanks again in advance. We will be included!!! November 4, 2003 Dr. Cowen and coalition members, Hello. I am a proud graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I have been following closely your work to change the BCS system and level the playing field in college football. I am writing to encourage you to continue the fight. I agree that the BCS system is unjust and unjustifiable. For example, my school, ECU, in the past 10 years has defeated Miami (Fla.) twice, Syracuse, NC State, West Virginia, Va. Tech, Wake Forest, Texas Tech, Stanford, and many other "BCS" schools in football. I have watched for years as teams like ECU, Tulane, BYU, Marshall, Toledo, Southern Miss, TCU, and others have put top-notch teams together capable of beating any BCS team on a given day and have not gotten to opportunity to prove it on the field. It is high time something was done about leveling the playing field. We are not asking for a hand-out, just a level playing field. Why should college football be different than all other college sports? (i.e. no playoff system) Something must be done now because the BCS mantra, and the financial differences to BCS vs. Non-BCS schools is severely hurting recruiting and the funding of other sports in non-BCS schools. It is a monopoly and the BCS schools are in a concerted effort to hold the non-BCS schools down and make them less competitive. Please continue your great efforts and I hope you will call on our interim chancellor, Dr. William Shelton to assist you in your efforts. The East Carolina University family is behind you 100%. Thank you. |
