Comments October 9, 2003 Well for me its happened. I am changing my purchase based on a company's support of the BCS. Here is a letter that was sent to ADT. ~~~~~~~ Due to recent changes in my neighborhood, I was looking into installing an ADT system in my home. This came based on recomendations from co-workers and friends. I reviewed your website, and even decided on the safewatch essentials system, and then I saw something that discouraged me from an ADT system. ADT is a sponser of the BCS system in college football. This is a program which causes disparity in college athletics, and prevents non BCS schools from participating in a chance at the national championship, and prevents a more fair distribution of the wealth that college football generates. Tulane's President Cowen thoroughly explains a majority of schools concerns about the BCS, so to save your time and mine I will simply say. Sorry, here is one customer you have lost due to your sponsorship of the BCS. October 1, 2003 Dear Presidential Coalition for athletics reform, I have sent this e-mail to Dr. Cowen and the executive committee members already, but felt that others at the Coalition office might be interested. Find the document attached. Yes, I realize that I'm "preaching to the choir" in this regard. As the future of the BCS is being "re-worked" I would put in my plea for a change that doesn't stop at just adding another BCS bowl with a spot for a non-BCS team(s). Although this is a plan that might appease some non-BCS conference commissioners and presidents due to better revenue distribution and fairer access to the BCS bowls, this would do nothing to remedy the REAL problem with the BCS--is that it claims to crown a national champion without any representation from nor access for non-BCS teams and that a non-BCS team cannot conceivably attain a BCS ranking of #1 or #2 under the current BCS rating system. My article details how the BCS rating system is problematic and exclusionary and how it cannot hope to consistently and accurately calculate who the two best teams in the nation are. If the BCS is going to claim the right to crown a national champion it needs to include all Div IA schools and use a different system (i.e. polls alone or selection committee) to determine the best two teams. Alternatively, and preferably, plans to move to a 8 or 16 team playoff should be explored where the matter of determining the best team in college football can be determined on the field. Thank you for your consideration. |
