The executive committee
will represent the coalition at a Sept. 8 meeting in Chicago with members
of the Presidential Oversight Committee of the Bowl Championship Series.
Prior to Sept. 8,
the committee will develop a number of discussion items for the meeting.
Part of the committee's general charge is to develop several proposals
about how non-BCS schools can gain greater access to post-season play.
Other issues that will be addressed include competitiveness and the
cost of competition, including the number of scholarships and sports
required at Division I-A. NCAA President Myles Brand is the facilitator
for the meeting.
The Presidential
Coalition for Athletics Reform represents the interests of 44 institutions
who are not members of the six conferences in the BCS.
